“Training for races and
wanting to do well”
“I took a long break
(15 years) and got back in when my company signed up for Corporate Challenge.”
“Competition is fun”
“Signing up for races”
“The fans at races”

Racing is great for someone who is competitive. Running in a group can be more fun and running for a charity or
organization is another great motivator. Choosing fun runs like a color run, or zombie 5K can take your mind off
running by focusing more on getting to the next color checkpoint or avoiding zombies from taking a flag off your belt. Find local races to add to your wishlist and discover races around the world that may be worth traveling to.

“...Sometimes a race in a different part of the country or world can pump you up for a peak experience.”
                                                                                         204

For the best race experience, consider what you eat
and drink!
“The dinner the night before the race and the breakfast on the morning of the race are important meals.”
“Pasta and rice dishes are favorites with runners, and with good reason. Both are loaded with carbohydrates to fuel your muscles.”
“... How far is the race? If it's a 5k, then half a bagel and a banana a couple hours before the race may be enough. But if you are running a half-marathon or marathon, then you're going to be out there a long time. Think pancakes, cold cereals, or oatmeal. Consider a banana, a drink, or an energy bar or gel closer to race time”

Members of the Rochester Running Club were asked
questions about their running experience.

Survey Question:
What made you continue to run? What motivates you most?

Full Response:
Training for races and wanting to do well. Now I just like how I feel when I run and after my run and the culture of it.
