“Setting a specific goal and
planning to achieve it mostly
motivates me.”
"The joy of reaching a goal (first marathon, PR, etc) is probably most motivating,"
“I am motivated because
I love the sense of
accomplishment”
“It feels good to set
and accomplish long
term  goals.”
"Setting overly ambitious goals can be demoralizing if it takes a long time to get there. Start small, savor the achievements, then push up to bigger goals as you build your base."
“Motivations include my fellow runners reaching their goals and aiming for mine
as well.”
Keep going and you’ll reach your goals. It’s hard at first but if you don’t give up you’ll be successful.
“Don't try to achieve big goals right away. Just
enjoy it.”

A 2021 Graphic Design Thesis Project by Juliana Cianciotto

Reaching goals is the most common way to stay motivated. Goals for  running can include running a new distance, faster pace, or an increase in frequency. They can range from other things like improving form to participating in your first 5K. When setting your own goals, think realistic-
ally. Don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t reach it, instead, be patient, or try to think of a new one. Many  runners advise beginners to take it easy and slow. Try only having
a few goals at a time, too many may become overwhelming and you may forget about them. Fill out these simple
questions and watch as your completed goals add up
on your profile!

Here are some suggestions based on what you have
recently completed.

Members of the Rochester Running Club were asked
questions about their running experience.

Survey Question:
What made you continue to run? What motivates you most?

Full Response:
I found it was as much of a mental challenge (training, race strategy, etc.) as a physical one. Being an engineer, that
appealed to me!
Setting a specific goal and planning to achieve it mostly motivates me. I also like to explore new places while running.
